Program Description
The Research Education for Teachers (RET) program focuses on biomedical engineering and technology. Teachers in this program will participate in Engineering research, specifically in the areas of in Biomedical Engineering, and Computer Science and Technology (click here to view the list of participating labs). Teachers will then work closely with faculty and trainees at the at the Texas A&M University College of Engineering, to translate their experiences into to research-inspired educational modules.
RET (6 weeks total): 4 weeks (June 15-July 17 with July 4th break from June 28 - July 3) + 1 week at K-12 Summer Institute (July 20-23) + 1 week spread across the rest of the year.
Program Timelines
- The first 1-2 weeks of both programs will be held on-site at Texas A&M University with paid housing (6/15/2020 – 6/26/2020). There are 2 options for the residential period at TAMU:
Option one - 2 weeks at TAMU (strongly recommended).
Option two - 1 week at TAMU (least recommended).
- The remaining weeks of the program will continue at home schools in the Rio Grande Valley, TX, where fellows will meet together to continue module development and interactions with TAMU faculty.
- There will be a July 4th break from Monday, June 28th through Friday, July 3rd.
- Also included as one of the weeks in the program is The 2020 K-12 Summer Institute (SI) in Kerrville, TX (7/20/2020 – 7/23/2020). Training, CE credits, hotel accommodations (double occupancy) and 2 meals/day will be provided free of charge. Attendance is required. - There will be an additional, paid week (following the Summer Institute) for continued development and pilot testing of the modules.
A stipend of up to $700/week (excluding SI week) will be provided to each participant, for a total of $3,500 for RETs.

- curriculum development experience (preferred but not required).

- a personal statement that provides information about your background, educational philosophies, your efforts to enhance student achievement and goals for participating in the RET.
