Program Description: The SHARE program of the MENTORS Project provides an opportunity for high school students to serve as Health Ambassadors in their communities.
This position involves:
- Participating in a kick-off Field Experience at Texas A&M University to initiate hands-on learning.
- Attending monthly/bi-weekly classroom training and mentorship meetings.
- Completing all assignments on time.
- Acting as a Health Educator, leading health talks, presentations, and screening activities at the local Health Expo. The Expo is organized for the benefit of the community and is held annually at the conclusion of the program (June 2022).

Each selected candidate will be paid a stipend of $140 for participation in the program throughout the school year. Please discuss your application and possible participation with your parents/legal guardian(s). All sections of the application must be completed and received by the deadline date for your application to be considered.
One letter of recommendation/reference is required. You will be asked to provide the following information for your referee: Name, Title/Organization, Email address. It is suggested that you contact the potential referee in advance to assess his/her willingness to provide a letter of recommendation by the deadline date. Your referee should be someone who can:
- Attest to your intellectual capabilities and leadership qualities.
- Comment on your communication skills and participation in extracurricular activities. Note: letters from relatives are not appropriate.
You will be asked to upload:
- A personal statement discussing why you want to be a Health Ambassador, and what makes you the ideal candidate for this role.
- An official or unofficial copy of your high school transcript.
Please plan to have your (1) transcript, (2) personal statement,. and (3) contact information for your referee ready before starting this application. The application cannot be saved on this portal, and will need to be completed and submitted in one sitting.
